The European Institute of Oncology, IEO, is a comprehensive cancer centre located in Milan, Italy. The institute strives for excellence in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer by developing clinical and scientific research coupled with innovative model for health and advanced research in the international oncology field. Among others the Breast Care is the scope and specificity of IEO.

Role

The daily experience with breast cancer patients’ from diagnosis to long term follow-ups and with the offered psycho-oncological support makes IEO an optimal managing partner for the study of individual and subjective psychological aspects related to patients’ resilience, and to help creating predictive models of cancer patients resilience. As such IEO will be involved in user requirement analysis (WP1) and resilience definition, assessment and impact (WP2) and the development of predictive BC models (WP4)

The competences on the psychological and cognitive processes, included factors related to resilience, allows interfacing with more technical partners in order to develop the aforementioned predictive models. As such IEO will actively monitor and participate in technology related WPs such as WP3.

Furthermore, the high number of breast cancer cases treated at IEO and the documented experience with ICT for cancer disease management makes this centre a valuable member of the project in investigating the efficacy of the resilience trajectory predictor. In particular, besides the collaboration in individuating and defining the factors affecting resilience IEO will conduct pilots with breast cancer patients (WP6) leading the corresponding work package, whereas it will also be involved in evaluation (WP7) and dissemination of the project (WP8).
